How hard is it, and do I need to ride?
No, you do not need to know how to ride. Most people who come have never sat on a horse for more than an hour.
The pace is slow and a guide rides with you the whole way. On riding days you are in the saddle four to six hours, with breaks.
The difficulty is soreness, not danger. Day two is when you notice it. Day three you stop noticing.

The scale
Level 1 — Steady
Walking pace, shorter riding days, one pass at most. Fine with no experience.
Level 2 — Long days
Four to six hours riding, a high pass, two or more nights out. Fine with no experience, easier if you are reasonably fit.
Level 3 — Cold or long
Winter conditions, or a longer route with consecutive long days. Some riding time helps.
